Cheerleading Director's Corner
March 2008
Welcome to the world of Cheerleading!
Cheerleading is a big commitment. The children must be 7 years old by July 31, 2008
to participate. On August 1 the season starts. It last till the last week in October.
(3 months). We have 8 games total, and they are played every Sunday starting in
September (4 home and 4 away). The farthest I think we have traveled for regular
season is Waltham.
Cheer teams practice m-th 6-8pm down at RecPark during the month of August.
The younger girls practice 2-3 nights. The girls also go to competition, which can
last up to the first week in December, with the hopes of getting to Disney for national
competition. (Younger girls, only exhibit once in October) If the girls keep advancing
they will go to Disney the first week in December. After that they are done.
The cost is $150.00 (discount for multiple children) per child, and another $70-100
to complete the uniform, which is provided by us. If there are any financial issues,
please see me in private. We will not leave any child out that would like to participate.
We have one mandatory fundraiser (Cash Calendar) and we do other optional fundraisers.
We also do a really nice year-end banquet, where every child gets a trophy and special
awards for scholastics, 100% attendance. We pride ourselves on being one of the only
towns to give back to the kids so much. We do Spirit nights on Thursdays thru the month
of August. We round up all the teams and they get to show each team what they have
learned that week, and I award the spirit stick to the team with the most spirit.
I would love it if you would ask around to other parents and see how they feel about
the program. I wecome feedback. This is an all-volunteer program, so we always need
new people to help, with coaching, team parents, even concessions.
The girls have a great time with each other, make a lot of new friends, and learn what
it like to count on each other to make it work. I am passionate about making sure the
girls have fun, but learn at the same time.
